Who we are

Alpha [al-fuh] (adj): being the most prominent, talented, or aggressive person in a group.

Race [reys] (noun): any contest or competition, especially to achieve superiority.

We are alphARace

  • No one is born Alpha...but we believe in the benefits of the continuous pursuit of becoming Alpha; in our personal lives and our business focus. This quest leads us to believe in:
  • COMPETITION, because there is no better way to learn who you are and what you're made of...it's more than you think.
  • PERSEVERANCE, because quitting never teaches you anything. We enjoy the journey of success, which always includes falling, and sometimes includes mud and bruises.
  • GIVING BACK, because someone needs to, and there are always local community needs to fill.
  • TREADING LIGHTLY, because we promise to leave our race course better than we found it. We leave our mark with a GREAT experience and AWESOME memories. They're more eco-friendly anyway.
  • WORKING HARD and PLAYING HARD; because the battle of pursuing dreams is mentally and physically demanding, and each success along the way deserves a celebration.

General FAQ

1. What makes alphARace unique from other races?

Really? Where else can you find a Night Race option by headlamp and a 200 foot slip and slide? Who else is going to give you personalized swag? We provide all these and more. Plus, we're just awesome, plain and simple.

2. Looks like fun, but I'm no athlete. Should I sign up?

Absolutely. There's an athlete in all of us, and whether you run, walk, or crawl the race, we're here to support you getting across that finish line. If you hit an obstacle you absolutely can't do, go around it. You can't get an award, but you'll still get all the finisher gear and the pride of completing the course to your fullest ability.

3. What is this about a championship race?

Let's face it – finishing an alphARace is awesome in itself, but some of us need to go for the win. The Top 3 males and females from each wave on Friday and Saturday are invited to run the championship wave on Saturday. Start time for this wave TBA on race weekend.

4. Can we compete with teams?

You know it. While there's no formal team division to alphARace, you'll have a blast doing the race with a group.

5. What do I get for swag?

Ah, the most important part of the race – the swag bag. Adults will receive personalized dog tags (with "call sign", alphARace logo, date, and race location), breathable t-shirt, drink voucher (beer or soft drinks), race bib, LIVE music celebration, and admittance to the Friday night bonfire. Kids receive a breathable t-shirt and alphARace logo dog tag.

6. I see water obstacles…do I have to swim?

Both our water obstacles involve a creek, so no swimming. If you fall in, stand up. Both water obstacles are also located next to bridges, which we don't encourage you to use, but are available if absolutely necessary.

7. Let's talk costumes – can mine be crazy?

Costumes are encouraged – the more creative, the better. Just make sure you have proper running shoes and won't endanger anyone with your costume. (E.G. The fire-throwing headlamp idea? Nix that one.)

8. What's the parking situation?

Parking is available for a nominal fee ($5), and all parking proceeds will go to a local non-profit group. We definitely encourage carpooling, for extra space and to psych each other up on the drive.

Kids Race

1. Is there a Kids Race?

You know it. Children ages 5-13 can compete in a 1 mile obstacle course option.

2. Can I run the Kids Race with my little alpha?

You bet. We absolutely support alphas in the making, and moral support is encouraged. Just note – your job is to run with them, and let them do the obstacles on their own.

3. My big little-alpha wants to do the adult course. Is there an age restriction?

Any age is eligible for the adult course, but minors obviously must have a signed waiver from their legal guardian. Point to consider – if your 8-year-old can outrun you, hundreds of people will witness it.

Registration and Packet Pick Up

1. Do I need to bring anything to packet pick-up? Can I pick up packets for other people?

Breathe deep – packet pick-up is a breeze. Bring your photo ID and pick up your packet. This includes your race bib, timing chip, and t-shirt. You'll also sign your participant waiver. For your friend, you need a copy of their ID, their signed participant waiver, and a signed letter stating that you are authorized to pick up their packet

2. Can I register on race day?

Yes, but please note that race day registration jumps to $100 and you will receive only your race bib and timing chip. Registrations after May 15 are not guaranteed personalized dog tags.

Event Day FAQ

1. What do I need to bring?

You – covered in running clothes. Even better, come in creative get-up – costumes are highly encouraged. If you're running the night race, you'll need to bring a headlamp to navigate the course. You'll also need a photo ID for packet pick-up, a change of clothes for after the race (optional), and your completed participant waiver. Most important – bring your alpha attitude. You'll need it.

2. Is there anything I can't bring?

No outside alcohol, no weapons or firearms, no glass containers. No wimpy attitudes. No cheating schemes – those caught trying to bootleg a race will be sorry. Very sorry.

3. How do the waves work?

Start times will be staggered for the day races. When registering, you will choose which wave you want to race in. You are responsible for knowing your start time and checking in, and must report to the starting location 15 minutes prior to your start time. Competitive racers are encouraged to sign up for the earliest waves to ensure a less populated course.

4. How does the timing work?

Your timing chip is embedded in your bib, you don't need to worry about it.

5. Can I leave my mud-covered shoes behind?

Absolutely. We'll have an on-site drop for race-destroyed shoes and will donate them through greenshoes.com.

6. When is the post-race party?

Drinks, food, and music will be available all day, and will extend into the post-race party.

7. Can I bring my dog?

Sorry, despite being dog-lovers ourselves, no animals are allowed at the race venue.

8. What if it's raining?

Our prayers will have been answered.

9. Can I shower after race?

If it's raining, yes. We're kidding – rinse off stations are available post-race.

10. Is there water available during the race?

If it's raining, yes. Kidding again. Water stations and sports drinks will be available on the course.

11. How do refunds work?

There are no refunds under any circumstances.

We regret that we have a participant cap, but we do. Registration will close when we reach our maximum limit.

10. Remember our family-friendly environment

11. Leaving means leaving

No race participant can return to the course once they have left it.

12. No cheaters

Any race participant found to be cutting corners, taking short-cuts, or altering the course route in any manner will be disqualified.

13. Spectators, please spectate

If you're not in the race, please stay off the course and away from obstacles at all times. We reserve the right to ask you to leave if you don't follow this request – it's not safe for you or the race participants.

14. Go Alpha

That's the whole point, right? Run, crawl, sweat, plunge, slide, sweat, bleed (not too much) – and challenge yourself. Remember, we believe in YOU.

Midland to host mud-slinging alphARace in June

    Cargo_Climb.JPG

Mount Morris might have the Warrior Dash, but Midland is bringing its own mud-slinging, intense race course to the area, too. The alphARace is coming to Midland on June 1 and 2. For those who are familiar with the Warrior Dash, alphARace is very similar. The race will begin at City Forest, 2840 Monroe in Midland. It is a 3.5-mile course of mud, dirt, water and military-style obstacles. It is meant to test participants’ mental and physical determination. On June 1, a night obstacle race will take place. Those who participate will take on the Alpha course guided by a head lamp.
